Description of Services
The following are services performed
by the consultant.
· Develop rock mass
characterization system for both underground headings and exploration/production
drill core. These characterization
systems can be built to be used by the operators or performed by the consultant
on a periodic basis.
· Design
ground support for specialized application and mining ground support standards
using a variety of classification systems including Q-NATM, RMR and Matthews
analysis.
· Rock mass analysis and
design of ground support systems for very poor ground conditions especially for
mine portals.
· Development of specific
ground support designs or standards for given ranges of rock mass conditions
that consider rock mass quality, support fixture capacity, excavation
longevity, and method of ground support installation.
- Stability analysis of geologic
structure for underground and surface excavations.
- Finite element modeling and
boundary element analysis of excavations.
· Evaluation of rock mass properties in machine
excavated underground workings and design and evaluation of ground support.
· Rock mass analysis and ground support design in Arctic
permafrost conditions.
· Rock mass evaluation and analysis for vertical bored
and blasted openings and suggest techniques to ensure long-term stability of
muck passes.
· Development of large sublevel stoping geotechnical and
rock engineering programs.
· Development of large sublevel stoping geology and
grade control programs.
· Root cause analysis for stability problems in block
cave mines.
· Analysis of load, bending stress, and deflection of
steel set ground support.
· Pillar stability analysis for underground room and
pillar operations.
· Risk analysis of various mining operation aspects by
fault tree analysis.
· Proposals and prefeasibility studies to recover lost
ore production.
· Testing and analysis of ground support components.
· Testing and analysis of rock mass properties.
· Employ empirical fracture analysis methodology.
· Installation,
reading and data reduction of rock mechanics instrumentation including over
core stress analysis.
· Surface
geotechnical reconnaissance using air photos and field mapping.
- Training of miners and mine
operators in the fundamental mechanics of rock support plus providing
classroom training of personnel and/or develop ground control reference
manuals.
- Stability analysis of paste and
cemented rock backfill.
- Analyses for backfill barricade
walls.
- Conduct risk analysis on many aspects
of a mining operation, but especially ground control related topics. The risk analysis can be developed on a
subjective basis and then converted to an objective analysis by group
participation in a process called fault tree analysis.
- Assist operations in developing
techniques and approaches to mitigate ground control problems and
facilitation of a mine-wide audit in concert with operations personnel to
gauge the overall effectiveness of the ground control program in place.
- Provide feedback loop to
determine if support designs are being followed or if the designs
themselves are appropriate for the conditions to which they are applied.
